Old Ale Update

old-aleI brewed an Old Ale last November, my first funky beer, and for a long time it sat in secondary doing nothing. About a month ago, it started to look like there was some activity on the rise, and now it’s starting to look like I expected. My plan is to let it age a year, so we have a few more months ahead, but the visual and aroma are very promising.

India Red Ale: All Grain Recipe

fwh-ira

For a special occasion, I have broken my pledge to keep all my beers small for the year, and brewed up a mega-hoppy, india red ale. It’s not for me, it’s for a friend…

What makes it an india red ale? Well, it’s almost like an IPA, but a little maltier and sweeter, with a redder color. Not much difference, just enough to make it different. This particular IRA got a big dose of Columbus and Centennial hops split throughout the boil, two of my favorite hops.
